The summer of 1951 produced two Islanders. The first issue, entirely an effort of the "councillors," is a typescript with hand drawn illustrations and a spectacular cover in watercolors. Although the editorial introducing the issue refers to "the advent of the new mimeographing machine" [they actually meant a "ditto" machine] and expresses the hope that the new technology would not "destroy the old type of ISLANDER," it is not clear whether the surviving number is a prototype for a dittoed issue or whether it was a unique copy intended to pass from hand to hand.
The 1951 Islanders contain no address list, so the roster consists entirely of names gleaned from the text of the two issues.

The August 1951 Islander, also a typescript, confirms that that season's issues were not duplicated, but were unique items intended to be passed hand to hand. Unlike the July issue, August billed itself as "the camper's issue." It is unusually rich in detail about life at AIC during this period, with reports on sail boat races, collections of camp "sayings," an illustrated account of the "counsellor's cruise" on the Alamar, a narrative of the "Lunatics in Tent V," a poem about "Hilary Dilary Smith," an "Alamar Ditty," and other topical gems.
