AIC CAMPERS & STAFF

1956

The 1956 Islander reverted to earlier style with its hand calligraphed construction paper cover. But the contents are dittoed.

1956 marked a major change for AIC, with the Hinrichs's arrival as successors to Nat French as camp directors. The Hinrichses arrived in force: with little Kate, Debby, Tori, and Chris in tow -- and a new camp dog, Duke.

There were still Frenches on the scene. The Admiral presumably still presided on her point on the mainland. Alison and Jeremy French, Nat's children.

The 1956 Islander contains the first mention of the legendary camper, Figgy Newton. Figgy had not yet suffered his ultimate fate -- falling through the "rotten rock" on Great Mountain and perishing. Figgy is portrayed in the thumb below

There is no address list in the 1956 Islander, but the issue contains a feature, "The Island Mirror," that contains all the names of campers and staff.
